Abstract

This article deals with the metaphorical representation of “Euromaidan” in the Russian and English comments of the news-portals. We examine the correlation between the frequency of metaphorical model usage and political position of authors of the comments. The analysis has shown that the main mean of representation of “Euromaidan” in Russian comments to the news portals are morbial, anthropomorphic, theatrical metaphors. In English comments, anthropomorphic, theatrical and metaphors of sport/game are the main mean of the “Euromaidan” representation. In Russian comments, the authors of the comments who are against V. Putin are more often use anthropomorphic and theatrical metaphors meanwhile those people who support V. Putin use more often morbial and religious metaphors. In English comments, supporters of Russian leader use sport and movement metaphors more often, meanwhile antagonists, like authors of Russian language comments, use anthropomorphic and theatrical metaphors
