THE DESCRIPTION OF THE INTERETHNIC CONTACTS IN THE 19TH CENTURY RUSSIAN LANGUAGE THROUGH THE DEVERBATIVE LEXIS

An active process of formation of new words in the 19th century Russian language is caused by some extralinguistic factors including the interethnic contacts of the different ethnyc groups. There by a lot of words formed by ethnonyms appeared in different genres of texts. The description of interethnic relations required its metalanguage, thus contributing to the replenishment of the group of verbs and abstract verbal lexicon by neologisms in the nineteenth-century Russian language. Being at the intersection of two major language trends – the realization of the potential of the Russian language word-forming system and the need for expression of new concepts from diverse spheres of social life by means of linguistic recources – abstract nouns-deverbativs with the meaning of action deriived from ethnonyms form a constantly growing group of vocabulary. Its homogeneous character is determined by the limitedness of the word-formation means – the suffixes -nie and - (iz)atsia are used in the derivation. Nevertheless, the group includes a number of variant forms that allow the speaker to explicate his communicative intentions, f. ex. to indicate the acuteness of interethnic relations or to reveale the author's attitude to the problem or events. The article presents the description of formation and functioning of the abstract nous motivated by the ethnonyms as the systemic phenomenon, a special attention is paid for the some words interesting for their use f. ex. anglizirovanie, obrusenie etc.
