Abstract

The article discusses the modern approach to improving the competitiveness of the forest and wood industry in the world market. Today, the forest and wood processing industry of Ukraine is not a strong side of Ukraine at the level of foreign economic activity, but it is still quite competitive. Therefore, in order to solve this problem, the article proposes a cluster approach for modeling its competitiveness enhancement and ways to implement this approach. The most promising model, in our opinion, for this purpose is the model of formation of clusters such as clusters. Cluster structures allow to optimally combine both cooperation and specialization processes, thus creating the necessary conditions for creation of stability of domestic producers of wood processing products and production of competitive products by them. The experience of successful functioning of clusters in developed countries of the world, in particular, in the field of wood processing, actualizes their creation and in the conditions of Ukraine. Clusters are formed taking into account the needs of the industry and consumers and based on the utilization of available opportunities of the enterprises of the forest and wood processing industry and with the support of the state and territorial authorities. In order to implement the cluster approach, regions were identified that have the potential of clustering both in the field of logging and its processing on the basis of data on the volume of logging and the volume of sales. As a result of the analysis we obtained 3 clusters — 3 groups of regions. The largest part is the regions of the first group ((Zhytomyr, Rivne, Chernihiv, Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk and Volyn regions), which have significant potential both in the field of raw material procurement for wood processing and in its processing. Thus, within these regions, there are all the necessary prerequisites for the formation of a cluster of LPC of Ukraine. The formation and development of the proposed model of the forest industry cluster will contribute to the growth of effective use of available resources and production capacities of the regions, improvement of quality and competitiveness of products of the forest and wood processing industry in the world market.
