FOOD SECURITY AS AN IMPORTANT INDICATOR OF COMPETITIVENESS OF NATIONAL ECONOMY

Abstract

The relevance of food security in modern society is reviewed. The priority was given to the problems for government food provision at all levels. The significance of assessing food security was highlighted and it was indicated that each country determines its own evaluation indicators, according to which the optimal methods for its provision are selected. Country's state of food security is examined according to the criterion of grain production per capita, as the main food crop, since grain meets more than fifty percent of food needs of the world's population. Price indexes dynamics for the realization of agricultural products in all areas of sales is determined, the need for analysis is due to the fact that price is one of the most important tools for regulating economic processes in the state. The dynamics of caloric content of the daily diet in Ukraine is determined. It is noted that the situation set today in our state, and overall planet, has further aggravated the problem of the inaccessibility of certain food products for an ordinary Ukrainian. Observed, that the main type of household spending remain food costs, with a 60 percent marginal criterion for this indicator, the average Ukrainian spends fifty-seven percent of his income on food. The rating of Ukraine by the Global Food Security Index is analyzed and the loss of the country's position in the rating is indicated. The need for developing a transparent mechanism for providing state guarantees of food safety and quality is outlined. It is noted that 2/3 of all diseases in Ukraine are a consequence of malnutrition, which leads not only to a decrease in production productivity, but also to a reduction in the life expectancy of the country's population. The importance of the agricultural sector in addressing the issue of providing high-quality and safe food to residents of the state is emphasized. The significance of the state role in supporting the agricultural sector of the national economy is noted.
