Characteristics of Modern Ukraine in the World’s Information Space: the Asian Aspect

The opinion of the most influential Chinese newspaper «People's Daily» (Renmin Ribao) was studied as a source for the formation of information bibliography bulletin «Ukraine in a review of the foreign press» compiled by the Foundation of Presidents of Ukraine, published by the V. I. Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine, in course of defining image characteristics of Ukraine which were relevant during 2019. The study provides a qualitative assessment of the content of «People's Daily» (Renmin Ribao) analyzed publications, explores the thematic range of the articles and dynamics of coverage of positive and negative sides of Ukraine image on the edition pages. As the study showed, the problems of Ukraine are very often discussed on the pages of the Chinese newspaper, in particular, 215 articles and notes dealt with the image of Ukraine, were published in 2019. Our content analysis is one of the key links in the process of image formation, regarding systematic control over the dynamics of image characteristics of Ukraine in foreign media. Preparation of the information bibliography bulletin «Ukraine in a review of the foreign press» by the Foundation of Presidents of Ukraine of the Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine implies not only systematization data on the reflection of the country in leading foreign media, but, as well analyzis of foreign media specifics. It allows to send a message about specific events at the state level, to create positive perception of Ukraine by the international community. Among the promising areas of research in this vein, we should mention the activation of systematic and scientifically sound approaches to monitoring of certain aspects of coverage of the Ukraine image in Ukrainian diaspora media, the accumulation of knowledge about the specifics of shaping our state image positioning among our compatriots abroad, the results of which can become a valuable resource for developing a strategy of the national branding.
