Abstract

It is stated that rising of digital science and transition of researches into digital environment, accelerated by it, is a new challenge for library. The necessity for developing a conceptual model of the library in this environment, i.e. a concentrated representation of its public purpose, structure and functions, is noted. A conceptual model of such a library as a structure in which, along with traditional library functions, an ordered database of primary research is formed, new patterns are revealed in it, and knowledge is produced and disseminated, is formulated. The necessity to pay special attention to the organizational and methodological component while solving the problem of forming primary research database and creating a virtual laboratory, which will serve as a subject-oriented “scientist' workplace” equipped with tools to conduct research, is noted. It is emphasized that the implementation of the organizational and methodological foundations of the development of the library in the digital science environment will require management decisions at three levels: at the level of the scientific institution, which includes library (university, institute), departmental, and interdepartmental. The first of them should consider the formation of primary research database, which will be acquired in the process of institution scientific activity. At the departmental level, it is advisable to entrust the task of developing software and technology tools for infometric studies to identify latent patterns in the mentioned funds and create virtual research laboratories. At the interdepartmental level, it is advisable to entrust the task of reorienting the system of scientific communications with formalized data transfer to the exchange of knowledge between researchers and the training of new generation specialists – analysts-librarians. In general, the proposed organizational and methodological principles will facilitate the functional transformation of the library from an infrastructure element of science into a participant of research.
