Abstract

Participation in everyday activities is considered to be a vital part of individual's development, which is related to quality of life and future life outcomes. The profession is based on many conceptual foundations, including quality of life; perceived freedom; intrinsic motivation, self-efficacy, and self-determination; health, wellness, and disability; and recreation and leisure. The unpredictability and uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic; the associated lockdowns, physical distancing, and other containment strategies; and the resulting economic breakdown could increase the risk of mental health problems and exacerbate health inequalities. Preliminary findings suggest adverse health effects in previously healthy people and especially in people with pre-existing mental health disorders. Despite the heterogeneity of worldwide health systems, efforts have been made to adapt the delivery of health care to the demands of COVID-19. However, while social distancing measures can help to reduce COVID-19 infection rates, these measures have also been found to negatively impact physical and mental health by restricting participation in daily activities, travel, leisure activities, physical activities, and various forms of exercise. The present article deals with the various aspects and importance of therapeutic recreation in the context of modern pandemic scenario. Based on the available literature, a conceptual framework has been developed to cope with the Covid19 pandemic.
