Antecedent and Psycho-Social Consequences of Domestic Violence in Family

The present paper aims to examine nature, causes and consequences of domestic violence that happens in families irrespective of socio-economic status, caste and religion. When domestic violence takes place it is specifically targeted towards women of every age. The offenders commit different forms of violence and abuses to the victim. In this research paper, based on the secondary sources efforts are made to analyse the prevalence and antecedent factors that leads to domestic violence. It has been evidenced that the victims of the violence suffer a lot they experience physical discomfort, pain emotional disturbance and low self-esteem. The sufferer of the violence develops negative attitude towards herself and society as a whole. They experience low self-esteem, poor mental health and a variety of behavioural and social problems.
