Abstract
This paper presents historical perspectives of urban development and planning legislations in Lagos, Nigeria. In the aspect of urbanization: political influence, population growth, socioeconomics and infrastructure are examined. While in the aspect of urban planning: pre-independence and post-independence regulations are reviewed.
