Abstract

The patients with type-2 diabetes have an increased prevalence of lipid abnormalities. The present study was carried out to evaluate the diagnostic value of the relationship between Glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) and lipid profile in type-2 diabetic population. An early intervention to normalize circulating lipids has been shown to reduce cardiovascular complications and mortality. Venous blood samples were collected from all known cases of diabetes and controls to analyze Glycated hemoglobin, fasting & post prandial blood sugar, total cholesterol, triglyceride, HDL-c, LDL-c & VLDL-c. Serum concentrated of HbA1c and all the parameters of lipid profile except HDL-C were increased while HDL-C concentration decreased in cases as compared to that of controls. These findings suggest that HbA1c level can be used as good parameter for predicting the lipid profile in type-2 diabetic patients.
