Abstract
Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has gained popularity in last few years in developing economies particularly in India. ICT accounts to the convergence of audio, video and data services supported by various service providers. Converged networks have merged the services of telephone, television and computer networks requiring different infrastructure and channels into a single communication network. The paper aims to demonstrate the usage and adoption of ICT in numerous areas of rural development supporting initiatives of Ministry of Rural Development and e-governance schemes. The study also brings forward the achievements and failures in the adoption of ICT in rural areas of Haryana. The methodology adopted was a qualitative analysis including primary data (questionnaire and interviews of general population in rural areas and officials working on rural development projects) and secondary data (information regarding available amenities in rural areas).
