Abstract
To analyse a low velocity impact on a laminated composite plate using nonlinear explicit finite element software LS-DYNA and calculates the contact force. The present finite element model is verified by analyzing impact-loaded laminated composite plate structures that have previously been studied through experimental or other numerical procedures. Here parametric studies were carried out by varying the mass and velocity of impactor. Analytical formulation for low velocity impact on a laminated composite plate impacted by steel sphere. The predictive capability of the present numerical and analytical approach is successfully demonstrated through comparisons between experimentally-measured force-time histories for impact of carbon fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP) plates.
