Abstract

Menopause is a range of significant changes from a physiological, social and emotional point of view. Nevertheless, the manifestations of this phenomenon occur in several ways, under different aspects. This study aimed to present an integrative review of the national and international scientific literature on the relationships between the physiological aspects involved in menopause with COVID-19. The existence of a more efficient immune response to the Covid-19 virus in women was found, but it became lower with menopause, in addition to the protective effect generated by estrogen by stimulating the humoral response to viral infections. It was also evident that the natural decrease in estrogen during menopause causes physiological changes, generating signs and symptoms, which are often related to phytoestrogenic foods that can mitigate such changes.
