Abstract

COVID-19 is a disease that affects the respiratory system and has a high transmissibility and dissemination power. It was first registered in December 2019 in Wuhan, China province. Currently, this viral range is responsible for one of the biggest pandemics that the world has ever seen. Its spread is easy to implement and a worrying rate of occupancy of hospital beds, reaching a lethality rate in the world that varies between 2% to 4% and in Brazil of 3.9%, according to the Ministry of Health. The scientific class has been trying every day to learn more about its pathophysiology, to discover the best treatment options and prophylaxis for this pathogen. In April 2020, the subgroup of pregnant women, lactating women and puerperal women entered the high-risk population for this disease. The treatments tend to be limited, taking into account not only the mother, but also the binomial mother and fetus. Another important point to draw attention to was the few, but existing, records of possible placental transmission, which points to the great importance of improving the theme. In response to the absence of concise information, considering therapeutic and vertical teratogenicity proposed in cases of pregnant women infected with COVID-19, this article aims to make the manifestation of the importance of knowing more about this issue more insistent in that risk subgroup.
