Abstract

During any epidemic of infectious diseases, pregnant women constitue an extremely sensitive group, due to altered physiology and immune functions, and therefore, susceptible to infection, making the assistance provided in obstetric and neonatal care services essential. The main purpose of this study was to describe nursing care for pregnant women who use health services in the midst of infection with the new coronavirus, clinical characteristics, in addition to maternal and neonatal outcomes. This is a descriptive study, characterized as a narrative literature review, in the period from 2019 to 2020. The SciELO, LILACS and MEDLINE databases, and the Health Sciences Descriptors were used: “healthcare nursing "," pregnancy"," new coronavirus ". It is suggested that care for this group should not be interrupted, even in the face of pregnant women with the flu syndrome or with COVID-19 infection, it is recommended that there be fetal surveillance as well as the assessment of intrauterine growth. Symptoms of pregnant women who tested positive for Covid-19 were similar to those of other adults. It was also observerd an increase in the number of caesarean sections, premature rupture of membranes, preterm delivery, fetal tachycardia, non-tranquilizing fetal status, fetal death, but, no case of abortion was reported. It is concluded that special care must be taken in pregnancy management and in making decisions about terminating pregnancy and handling the newborn, in order to minimize the risk of subsequent health consequences. Further studies are needed to better assess the possibility of this transmission route, as well as the possible repercussions during pregnancy.
