Abstract

Within to-date continuous flow of information and the availability of international contacts, a special need for knowledge of English is increasing. The competence-based approach, which is actively used in the modern education system, is aimed at applying knowledge and skills in practice. By mastering the language, students also gain an understanding of the culture of the language under study, which is part of the language competence, with the latter being important for successful intercultural communication. In combination with the competency-based approach, no less widespread module approach is often used. It individualizes the learning process and subsequently contributes to the increase of student's independence. Each training module in the textbooks of foreign languages is aimed at developing various skills (listening, writing and speaking, using grammatical structures and complexes). Each of these skills reveals a strong correlation with the vocabulary of students, which is an important component of language competence in general. Educational modules covering the topics of food and health are aimed not only at improving language competence through language usage in various areas of life, but also at mastering general cultural competence, which is necessary for the successful social integration of students. A healthy lifestyle, incorporating both a culture of healthy eating and nutritional habits, is rightly considered to be the foundation of a healthy society.
