IMPROVING FUTURE LANGUAGE TEACHERS’ SYNTACTIC COMPETENCE IN THE PROCESS OF STUDYING A COMPOUND SENTENCE

Abstract

Introduction.The article highlights the need to improve the syntactic competence of future language teachers in the process of studying compound sentences as a means of strengthening the quality of philological training and competence development. Current issues in the system of higher education directly connected with implementation of competence content and organization-forming approachin the educational process. All of the foregoing requires a significant increase of future philologists'professional skills, equipping them with deep knowledge, modern competencies, methods and technologies that will contribute to the restructuring of the educational process respecting the innovative approaches and requirements. Moreover, it will ensure their competitiveness in the labour market and the effective performance of professional functions. Based on a thorough analysis of scientific achievements and own developments in the field of competence approach to future language teachers' training, the author's system of syntactic exercises and tasks based on compound sentences in the process of studying modern Ukrainian language is provided. Purpose. The aim of the study is to outline ways of improving the syntactic competence of future language teachers in the process of studying a compound sentence. Methods. The general-logical methods and techniques of research: analysis, synthesis, abstraction, generalization, induction, deduction were used. Results. The article deals with the analysis of modern means for managing the continuous development of language teachers' professional competence, while forming the syntactic competence is an important part of this process. The paper reveals the features of competence development which involves the reorientation of the dominant educational paradigm from the predominant translation and acquisition of knowledge to mastering a set of competencies that contribute to the formation of personality, human ability to adapt in a multi-factorial socio-political, market-economic and information space. Based on this, the problem of improving the quality of Ukrainian language and literature future teachers' training remains urgent today. The main peculiarities of modern teacher considered as firm professional knowledge, ability to supplement them independently and be competitive in the market of philological services. The leading role in solving this problem is given to the improvement of syntactic competence as a component of linguistic competence. Originality. The originality of the article is determined by the justification of the means for managing the language teachers' professional development and forming their professional competence, particularly syntactic one. Conclusion. Therefore, it was stated that implementing proposed system of exercises and tasks with regard to the gradual application of students' independent cognitive activity, bringing the educational process closer to natural communication conditions, involving applicants in various speech situations will further teach them how to interact with a communication partner, define the conditions of speech and communication tasks. Furthermore, the exercises are aimed to form skills of independent work with different types of compound sentences, the whole texts, stimulate the desire to strengthen their knowledge which improves the ability to identify, analyse, classify, summarise and compare syntactic phenomena. It helps to build the sense of language and accurate use of syntactic constructions in communication processes. Prospects for further research are seen in future teachers' of Ukrainian language and literature morphological competence improving.
