Abstract

An experiment was undertaken to assess genetic variability, heritability (bs) and genetic advance (as percent of mean) for 10 traits among mungbean genotypes. Analysis of variance revealed substantial amount of variation for all characters studied except pod length. Low magnitudinal differences between PCV and GCV observed for 100-seed weight indicating maximum reflection of genotype into phenotype. High to moderate genotypic coefficient of variation and high broad sense heritability coupled with high genetic advance as percent of mean were recorded for plant height, number of clusters/ plant, number of pods/ plant, 100-seed weight, seed yield/ plant and harvest index, suggesting the preponderance of additive gene action in the inheritance of these attributes. Hence, rigorous selection for these traits may be effective for yield improvement.
