Abstract

The paper deals with the variability of the Ukrainians' informal given names, and some psychological aspects of the transpersonal interaction related to it. A name is not only a social and cultural phenomenon but also one of current challenges of the lingual communication. Choosing a given name is influenced by the national, religious, social, and psychological attitudes. The anthroponym, that was selfsome chosen by the person, enlightens personal attributes, preferences, or orienting points. Informal anthroponyms, in one respect, guarantee a certain liberty to the person in choosing among different ways of self-presentation, but, in other respect, give the same liberty to the interlocutor. Sometimes that brings about disregard of the named person's wishes, and thence to the latent or naked aggression and conflicts. Analyzing the statements (posts and comments) in Facebook, which is one of the most popular channels for passing the social opinion, we have revealed the heightened attention to informal anthroponyms by Ukrainians. This problem is not fresh, though (messages, hidden inside the informal names, were presented to the audition by Ukrainian writers in all the times), but specifically by the 21st c. it has become a part of the anthropocentric worldview. Meeting the person's wishes for a variant of self-presentation is treated as an empathy, respect for his/her dignity, national, social, and cultural attitudes. Bloggers, Facebook users share stories of how the informal name variant chosen by them is or is not taken into account in the everyday communication, and assert the importance of the right to be heard. The outside and overt observation methods allowed us to highlight the most widespread trends in attitudes to the given informal names, a part of which is related directly to the demands of the linguistic and cultural separation, which is currently important in the face of the struggle for national and cultural self-esteem.
