Abstract
The present studyis focused on Sehore M. C. in Madhya Pradesh which is showing perceptible changes in workforce structure of female population. Urban centers such as Sehore M. C. are often the potential sites of a vibrant economy and thus make a fascinating subject of study for the deeper understanding of the economic development dynamics in regional perspectives. The study provides a comparative analysis of the workforce structure over the time and across the gender. The gender gap across the three socio - economic variables has been calculated as per the methodology of Gender Empowerment Measure (GEM) of UNDP which applies the harmonic mean of the gendered percentages for the parameters. Although as observed in the study area, there has been a decline in the gender gap in total population as well literate population; there exists a wide and increasing gender gap on economic participation front in Sehore M. C. The GEM for the three selected parameters has been worked out to be 0.43 which is showing the maximum gender gap on workforce participation.
