Abstract

The article analyses the toponymy in the works of a famous detective writer. The author establishes that there is a connection between the names of certain places from her literary works and historical events and real geographical objects. When inventing a name for a city, village or estate, Agatha Christie took existing toponyms as a basis. Then she “refined” them using the names of historical figures and obsolete vocabulary. The novelist did not choose geographical names arbitrarily, they reflected her ideas, thoughts and feelings in literary works.
