Gorky’s play ?The Lower Depths? as the basic stage of human society de- velopment, actualized by the playwright for the realization of the Foundation of his own idea of Man on his path to Light and Freedom. The paper shows that the symbolic line of Gorky’s play is based on images and symbols of the philosophy of Plato, including, for example, the image of the cave, keys, etc. Compositional structure of the play starts from the structure of the dialogues of Plato, in particular the dialogue ?Feast?, its installation at the center of the narrative in the form of a feast table and the capabilities of each of the characters to speak in front of someone.
