The article assesses the modernization perspectives of food industry, identifies sub?branches of food industry on the level of implementation of advanced technologies and innovative activities, assesses readiness of branch to structural and innovative changes, and substantiates the necessity to create favorable conditions for the development of innovative processes and implementation of scientific and technical achievements. Aim of research: assessment of real and potential readiness of the branch to transformation changes in the conditions of global competition, substantiation of its modernization and the necessity of realizing innovative changes in the branch, capable of increasing competitiveness of the Ukrainian food products on the internal and external markets. Results of research: restoring potential of food industry and its realization require the development of Strategy of Food Industry Development ? important forecasting document with the clearly identified aims, tasks and main directions of branch development, including directions and measures of the state legal and economic support directed at stimulating development, increasing volumes of industrial goods and providing high competitive capacity of the latter on the internal and world markets.
