Abstract

Human is an entity comprised of a number of emotions. While emotions in human are used at correct place and with correct measures, they become beneficial, they become harmful when they are used out of acceptable measures. Therefore, it is suggested that emotions should be used timely and in a balanced way. Fear is also one of the emotions within human nature. As other emotions, this emotions should be used timely and in a balanced way. Qur'an mentioned not only other emotions in human but also the emotion of fear. The word of “khashya” (fear) used in Qur'an means fear mixed with respect which shows up as a result of knowledge. In this study, semantical analysis of concept of “khashya” (fear) used in Qur'an is carried out. First of all, etymologic structure of this word is examined, then terminological definitions and opinions of scholars about this concept are given place. Next, the use of word of “khashya” in jahiliyyah is mentioned, how and where Arabs used this word is investigated, differences from its use in Qur'an are tried to be determined. Lastly, the use of this word in Qur'an is examined. Firstly, some concepts which are used with “khashya” or which has meaning closeness with “khashya” word in Qur'an are mentioned, relations, proximities and differences of these concepts with “khashya”, are examined. After then, the approach of Qur'an to the emotion of “khashya” and how and where Qur'an requests this emotion should be used is tried to be determined. In connection with this, the places at which this emotion should or should not be used according to Qur'an are examined one by one and a result is tried to be reached.
