Abstract

Poets who depending on the classic literary tradition, wrote the works using different meanings of the words. When commenting the sufi poet's poems should be noted that their religious perspectives, world views and perceptions of existence. Thus, the depth of meaning of the works will be better understood. It is not possible to extrapolate mystical meaning in each poet's poems. But when the sufi poets using wine, tavern, beloved, they want to explane different things about sufi doctrines. It will not be true negative comments when referring to the first meaning of these words. Therefore, is necessary to know the different meaning of words in Sufi poetry. It will be beneficial analysis experiments that tried to identify the various meanings of words, frequently used in classical literature and for both religious and secular reveal the layers of meaning of these elements. In this article is described that the religious and mystical connotations of four elements in the Divans of Dede Ömer Rûşenî (d.1487), Şemseddin Sivâsî (d.1597) and Ümmî Sinan (d.1657) who very important poets in tariqa of Halvati. Four Elements consist of fire, air, water and soil. Phrases and expressions made by these elements that draws attention in this poet's divans. In this article, relevant couplets are translated into modern Turkish and than couplets are explained. During this assessment, it has tried to express the mystical meaning of the words and connotations in the text.
