Abstract
Memorial museology was established in the European culture during the second half of the 19th century. However, we can speak about the creation of a memorial museum network in the space between the Dniester and Prut rivers only in the late 1980-s. Within this network there are different museum institutions in terms of their profile and typology. According to the typology we can mention the existence of museums dedicated to certain historical events and museums dedicated to famous people. The profile classification allows us to highlight two major groups of memorial museums: historical and literary ones.
