Abstract

In the article the role of corporate governance ratings as part of information support of strategic management is considered. Ratings provide internal and external users by the generalized, reliable and timely information about the status of the evaluated companies allowing to make informed management decisions about further development of enterprises. The author gives a description of the main methodological approaches to assessing the quality of corporate governance. It is noted that the use of generally accepted evaluation methods, in particular the National rating scale, helps to reduce the level of subjective judgment. The key functions of corporate governance rating for internal users (owners, managers and workers) are determined; identified the functions which could be used for strategic decision-making. It is indicated that the use of rating agencies data for external users (investors, partners, customers) gives grounds for the analysis of the further cooperation prospects with the assessed company. The author investigates the importance of corporate governance ratings for different types of investors (risk investors, the traditional portfolio investors, strategic investors) and the main directions of improving the rating services market in Ukraine.
