Abstract

Both simple solutions containing only resorcinol and complex alcoholic solutions including other pharmaceutical substances are being produced in production departments of pharmacies licensed to manufacture. They are able to affect the stability of the latter. Results of studying resorcinol stability in one simple and two complex alcoholic solutions containing dimedrol and boric acid collectively are presented in the article. For packing alcoholic solutions OS mark medical glass bottles of lighting orange glass and glass bottles made of MTO mark bleached medical container glass were used. According to the results of sensory control and of quantitative defining components of prescription drugs qualitative indicators (color, smell, mechanical switching) of resorcinol alcoholic solution and resorcinol alcoholic solution with dimedrol remained stable for 10 days in MTO mark medical glass bottles and for 20 days in OS mark medical glass bottles respectively. The quantitative content of resorcinol in OS mark medical glass bottles remained stable for 10 days and gradually decreased as a result of oxidation processes and it goes beyond tolerance. The content of dimedrol remained stable for the whole observation period. Multicomponent resorcinol alcoholic solution with boric acid was more stable in storage – 20 days in MTO mark medical glass bottles and 30 days in OS mark medical glass bottles respectively. Thus it has been established that boric acid increases resorcinol stability during storage. It is recommended to increase resorcinol and boric acid alcoholic solution storage period from 10 to 15 days on the basis of resorcinol and boric acid quantitative content analysis during storage
