Abstract
The article is devoted to folklore and ethnographic heritage of D. I. Yavornytsky, which occupies an important place among the vast and multifaceted scientific achievements of the scientist. The source base for the study was unpublished complete at this time manuscript collection «Ukrainian common people in his creation», collected in the territory of Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, Poltava, Kyiv, Odesa during 1870–1930's, stored in archival collections of manuscripts and Phonorecordings Institute of Art Studies, Folklore and Ethnology named after M. T. Rylsky of NASU. It collected the legends and stories about the universe, people, animals and birds, fairy tales, historical legends provided an opportunity to explore the main features of the outlook ukrainian peasants of Dnipro region late XIX – early XX century. Important in this sence are seen returned to the past way of thinking and soul-searching, prevailing ukrainian Cossacks, that on a subconscious level disclose their vision of "the truth of life". Ukrainian peasants with their historically ability to philosophising potentially, were exposed to religious modernization. In their philosophical ideas coexist orthodox dogma and mythological and religious beliefs, the opposition remained critical characteristic of ancient Slavic cultural tradition: fire – water, life – death, darkness – light, good – evil as opposed to positive and negative with respect to the collective and human. In they outlook also reflects animistic features particularly characteristic for demonology. Thanks to the distinctive folklore and ethnographic space Naddniprianshyna remained unique world of language, religion, folklore, historical memory.
