Abstract
Introduction: Assessment of negative symptoms in schizophrenia is a topical problem of modern psychiatry. Special psychometric scales have been developed to solve this problem. Objective: the methodological analysis of negative symptoms assessment scales. Discussion: Psychometric tools for assessment of negative symptoms are classified into first- and second- generation scales. First-generation scales have several methodological problems associated with the content validity, the second- generation scales have more thorough psychometric properties, but have problems with the assessment of the behavior instead of the actual assessment of negative symptoms. Conclusion: the use of instruments for assessment of negative symptoms has scientific expediency and practical necessity, but necessarily requires revision of their psychometric properties and diagnostic efficiency.
