THE TASK OF PLEIN-AIR PAINTING IN OEUVRE OF IVAN (HOVHANNES) AIVAZOVSKY

One of the prominent representatives of the world seascape painting Ivan Aivazovsky (1817-1900) attracted attention of the Russian and European art historians even in his youth. Various papers about Aivazovsky were issued in many countries and in many languages. It can be said that art, ideas and artistic preferences of the seascape painter had been studied almost completely. We would like to bring up the topic of the great seascape painter once again to present the new information; it is a very difficult task. Nevertheless, this paper reveals the aspect of Aivazovsky's oeuvre, which is rather underinvestigated; it is devoted to the study of his plein-air paintings.
