Abstract
The author considers the narrative strategy on three levels of literary narration generation – anecdotal, narrative and textual ones. The textual event presented by an episode of literary text with its eventive, actantial and chronotopical parameters is studied in particular. In the second part of the article, it is shown which communicative types of utterances embody narrative strategy in three episodes in Thomas Mann's short story. In this regard intentionally determined narrative, descriptive, appraisive and mimetic elements of utterances and their functions in text are considered.
