Abstract
The paper presents a part of the results of three-component complex investigation concerning the necessity of the complex long-term care for the Bulgarian patients. This care is implemented by Institutions for medical and social services. The first component analyses the patient way and its financial dimensions. The second one is an economic analysis of an establishment carrying out a complex long-term care for the patients. The third component is a questionnaire survey among medical specialists and patients regarding the necessity and social opinion for a complex long-term care to the patients. The financial comparison of the cost for a bed per day shows it is considerably higher in a Multi-profile Hospital for Active Treatment (MHAT) compared with the cost in a hospice. The patients with chronic non-inflectional diseases after their treatment in a MHAT could continue rehabilitation in a hospice for a smaller cost.
