Problems of formation of professional singing school in China during the formation of the PRC in the mirror of music periodicals

After the founding of the people's republic of China, there was a massive debate between bel canto and the Chinese folk singing in the Chinese vocal music circle. This debate concerning the singing problems aroused the wide attention of music in the PRC. Many people have joined this debate, including the music theorists, singers, composers, the media and the public. The topics are involved from the vocal music performance, the singing methods, the historical evolvement of the aesthetic ideas of the singing art. From the view point of the history, this debate is not only an important contention and collision, which concerning the concepts between Chinese and western vocal music at the beginning of the PRS, but also an continuing collision of music concepts during the 1920s and 1930s, to some extent. This debate and exploration in this particular historical and cultural context laid the foundation for the flourishing of the vocal art in China
