Abstract
Background: Pancreatic cancer is one of the most topical issues of medicine and all mankind, especially in the population of developed countries. In the USA pancreatic cancer ranks 4th among the causes of death from cancer. In Belarus in 2008 the incidence of pancreatic cancer was 4.9 cases per 100000 population. Aim: To improve the results of surgical treatment of patients with pancreatic head cancer with the invasion into great vessels. Material and methods: Our own clinical observation of surgical treatment of pancreatic head cancer with the invasion into the portal vein is presented in the article. In 2015 patient P. underwent pancreaticoduodenal resection with marginal resection of the portal vein. Conclusions: Tangential excision of the portal vein together with the tumor of the pancreatic head invading into its wall contributes to achieving Ro resection when performing pancreatoduodenectomy. The involvement of the portal vein in the tumor process is not a contraindication for radical surgery.
