Abstract
The aim of the article is to present the insights of emotional intelligence that is becoming much more important in a knowledge-based economy. A modern manager must be a leader who is able to identify and effectively manage not only his / her own emotions, but also the emotions of other people, because emotional intelligence positively influences managerial effectiveness. Furthermore, in the article the basic approaches to explaining emotions have been outlined. A number of important theories of emotion have been reviewed.
