Abstract
Wireless Body Area Networking (WBAN) has been recently hot topic among researchers where On-Body antenna is placed on a human body and wirelessly sends information. There are various protocols and radio technologies available for WBAN. However, in this paper, a wideband and reduced size micro-strip patch On-Body antenna with 0.8 mm thick indigo blue jeans having relative permittivity of 1.67 and loss tangent of 0.03 for the existing infrastructure networks WiMAX and LTE is proposed. The results show the proposed antenna brings a size reduction of about 23.3% compared to the existing design. Beside size reduction, there is an incredible bandwidth enhancement of 116% which is 4.3 GHz at 3.5 GHz resonant frequency compared to 210 MHz. The simulation results of return loss and radiation pattern are presented as well. A significant improvement of 42.1% in return loss is evident in the results. The proposed on-body antenna exhibits Omni-directional radiation pattern with a suitable gain of 3 dB, a return loss of -42.1 dB and bandwidth of 4.3 GHz for body centric applications. Thus, the proposed Micro-strip On-Body antenna is suitable for various rescue and medical applications under WIMAX and LTE frequency bands.
