Abstract
This paper presents the use of variable fiber optic attenuator incorporated in intensity modulated fiber sensor configuration in which light is split into two arms: modulated and reference fiber arm. In order that the initial ratio of light intensity passing through these two arms can be kept to a particular value, light intensity in either the modulated or reference arm must be adjusted (reduced). In the experiment presented in this paper, a variable fiber optic attenuator was connected to the reference arm. It is shown that the ratio between the light passing through the modulated and reference arm can be set equal to zero and thus can be functioned as zero adjuster.
