SEMANTIC CLASSIFICATION OF OIKONYMS IN HUNAN PROVINCE OF CHINA

This article is devoted to the study of oikonyms of Hunan province, PRC. Oikonyms, like other types of toponyms, are a valuable source of linguistic, ethnographic, culturological, etc. information. Relying on the research of Chinese and Russian authors, we attempted to classify the corpus of 100 units on a semantic basis. As a result, six categories were identified, the most numerous of which turned out to be a group of oikonyms containing information about the surrounding area (geographical objects nearby, features of the surrounding landscape, etc.)
