Abstract

In the article the monologue speech skills are briefly enumerated, the stages of the ESP monologue speech teaching to future mechanical engineers are suggested and characterized in more detail, aims of the stages are highlighted, examples of the tasks for the purpose of the ESP monologue speech gradual skills development are given. The given methodology aims at the teaching efficiency enhancement by means of information and communication (in particular podcasting) technologies application in the course of students' extracurricular activity. The stages of the ESP monologue speech teaching to future mechanical engineers are as follows: preparatory (receptive and reproductive substage, receptive and productive substage), fundamental (conditionally productive substage, productive substage) and conclusive. Each stage is dedicated to the specific skill groups' development. At the receptive and reproductive substage skills of the first group are developed. Among them are skills to analyze the structure of the pattern, identify and trace the meaning of new terms, syntactic structures; skills to thoroughly analyze the speech pattern in order to comprehend, understand, break down into meaningful parts, register key information. The speech patterns mentioned above are the basis for the reproductive activity as commenting on the content follows the process of comprehension. Students perform tasks on multiple choice, grouping, transformation, adding information, ordering, diagram completion, reproducing. During the receptive and productive substage students are to express and justify their opinion on the comprehended information, produce their own grammatically correct, consistent, coherent speech and upload it to the podcasting service. The conditionally productive substage is dedicated to the comprehension of information from websites, suggested by the lecturer, extracting information necessary to solve the problem, notetaking, finding the ultimate solution, producing monologue (which contains characteristics, detailed description, generalization, explanation, comparison, speculation) in accordance with the task. At the productive substage necessary information to solve the problematic tasks connected with the future profession of the mechanical engineers is to be obtained independently and the solutions are to be presented (as a monologue) on the service. In the course of the conclusive stage students present final version of their speech in the classroom where further discussion and debate take place.
