Abstract
This article focuses on the problem of mental development in pre-school children; it describes its features and patterns. A preschool child is able to understand and solve problems of different types, to use the operations of judging, reasoning, finding cause-and-effect relations. Using their imagination and thinking, as well as comparison, analysis, synthesis and matching of the previously acquired knowledge with the new one, children hypothesize, design constructions and produce creative ideas.
The author explores the mechanisms of creative thinking activities for the purpose of their further development and analyzes prerequisites of its optimization at the pre-school age. Purposeful attention and inciting of practical activities of preschool children comprise important prerequisites for development of their cognitive sphere, of complex intellectual activities crucial for creative activity.
