Abstract
The article reviews the existing strategies and approaches to the development of critical thinking. Summarized are the main concepts of content, form and means of developing critical thinking skills in the process of media education. Currently, the theme of critical thinking is underdeveloped in Ukraine. Separate findings are not systematized and are unconnected between them. Systemic comparative analysis of the relevant conceptions was not made; statistical data are lacking; any clear and integral national program is absent for development of critical thinking as a component of cultural development in general and media-culture in particular. The indices of the level of critical thinking skills development should be set, as well as the criteria for their assessment, and valid testing techniques for students elaborated, together with guidelines for high school and college teachers.
