ENGLISH FOR IT SPECIALISTS – A HANDBOOK FOR IT STUDENTS

Abstract
The article presents the handbook ENGLISH for IT specialists. It is a logical extension of the author's doctoral dissertation entitled “A Model for the Development of Students' Foreign Language Competence in an Information Educational Environment”. First of all, the author presents the basic idea behind the notion of Foreign Language Competence, which at a professional level turns out to be effective communicative foreign language competence. Secondly, the article goes on to present the handbook content emphasizing the two essential components to be found in it: informative (comprising 10 modules that follow the logic of studying Information Sciences at the University of Library Studies and Information Technologies and the courses projected in the curriculum) and English grammar (10 modules of practice and consolidation of what the students have learned in the first 2 years of their studies). A breakdown of basic stages to be followed when teaching English for IT from the Handbook is included: means for the development of foreign language competence in an information and educational environment have been analyzed
