Abstract
The article is dated to the 190 anniversary since the birth of the outstanding English scientist William Thomson. Bio-graphic facts from the life of the scientist are provided, Kelvin's contribution to physics and engineering development is noted. His role in the organization of the Great Britain's first physical laboratory is especially noted. The role of experience of laboratory in distribution of a new form of preparation of students to studying of physics and its contri-bution to development of physical science is emphasized.
