Abstract
In this article the author examines and analyzes the state as a social actor of international legal relations. The author gives the main features of the state in terms of international legal personality. In addition, the impossibility of existence of a state without participation in the international legal relations, which is due to the social nature of the state, the undisputed interconnection of its internal and external relations and anthropological factor. The necessity of the existence of sovereignty as one of the prerequisites for acquiring the status of the subject of international legal relations, as well as the significance of the way of legitimizing its creation, which determines the possibility of perceiving the state as a full and equal subject in the international arena, is emphasized. The peculiarities of participation in international legal relations of complex and unitary states are investigated, which in turn proves that, regardless of the way in which it is organized and its existence, it will never be fully able to function without the intercourse with other states.
