Abstract

The information on the prevalence, clinical features and dirofilariasis diagnosis - the only human transmissible parasitic disease, which is typical for tropical climate countries, but in recent years, often registered in Ukraine. Dirofilaria are thin threadlike worms, round and white, which belong to the Nematoda class, Spirurida number, Filariidae family, Dirofilaria genus. Subcutaneous dirofilariasis shows a history about staying in endemic area in the summer season; the presence of pathological structures under the skin (tumors, granulomas) in any part of the body that can "move"; eye disease with localization and migration of helminth under the skin of the eyelids, the membranes of the eye; swelling, similar to angioedema; helminth detection in remote tissues; detection of nematodes in the morphological study and identification of the genus Dirofilaria. Clinical manifestations and different people associated with dirofilaria the skin and subcutaneous adipose tissue, tissues of the eye. Typical manifestations of dirofilariasis: the appearance of superficial formations, tumors or nodes, in most cases the individual contained in different parts of the body and do not disturb the patient or is accompanied by pain, itching, feeling stirring or worms moving. The only method of laboratory diagnosis of dirofilariasis is morphological study of remote helminth (determine the species, sex, size), by which establish the diagnosis. As dirofilaria are facultative parasites of a man, after detection of single (1-2, rarely - 3-4) of adult worms, often unfertilized females, rarely - males a diagnosis can be established. Microfilaria can not be shown in human blood. An additional method of diagnosis is immune - definition of response of the patient to the presence of dirofilaria - the presence of antibodies to migrating larvae by ELISA. We have described the clinical case of dirofilariasis in subcutaneous zygomatic area.
