Abstract

The majority of reactive power is produced by the Reactive Loads in distribution system and transmission system. To increase the reactive power in distribution system, it generates low Power Factor Currents at the Reactive loads. Therefore, STATCOM helps to control the Reactive Power and eliminates the Total Harmonic Distortion drawn from linear loads and Non-Linear Loads. This paper presence the 5-Level CMC-STATCOM with a modular structure, and it has main applications in both transmission system and distribution system. The Application point of view STATCOM has many advantages as compared with the other kinds of FACTS family. The mathematical model of main topology, the States Feedback Decoupled Reactive Power Control Strategy is based on the p-q co-ordinate system, together with the generating PWM Modulation Waveform of Carrier Phase Shift PWM and Carrier Level Shifted PWM modulation method in CMCSTATCOM. To give the stable operation of the system Dc bus voltage is a key factor. To achieve a DC bus voltage overall control and individual control of each cascaded module applying closed loop P-I control method is used. Finally, the simulation results of 11KV, 1-MVA 5-Level CMC STATCOM verify the correctness and effectiveness of the control strategy and modulation method in this paper using MATLAB/SIMULINK Software.
