Abstract
Utilization of oily keruing(Dipterocarpus hasseltii) wood for laminated wood producthas not been optimal because of the appearance of extractive substance (oil) on wood suiface which affects the bondingprocess.Thisstutly is to examine the effect of extracting the extractive materiafl rom the oily-keruing severalcharacteristics of laminated wood. Solvingout the extractive was done l:y boiling the wood in ethanol solvent of 35% (v/v). The testing method on the laminated wood referredto thestandard of JAS-2003.The results show that boilingtreatment in ethanolcan improve wettability signiftcantly up lo 54% and increase the bonding strength from 1.41 kg/en/ to 17,90 kg/ cm1 (583%) on dry-testand from 2.66 kg/ cm1 to 8.41 kg/cm1 (216%) on wet-lest. Thetreatment also decrease delamination of the laminated wood from 107% to 36%.Further, the laminated wood made from oily-keruing wood after the treatment is recommendable for indoor product component.
