Abstract
Heavy duty used in skidding could effect soil damage, i.e.top soil displacement or top soil loss. Top soil loss means decreasingforest soilfertility then could decrease fores productivity. The effective and efficient skidding tecbniqt could increase productivity and decrease skiddingcost and top soil displacement. The smdy carried out in May 2010 in PT Wirakarya Sakti, Jambi Province. The aim of the study was to find out the effect of implementedproper and conventional skidding techniques toproductivity, skidding cos/ and top soil displacement. The data will be collected from field trials, and questionnaire then will be analyzed by tabulation. To recommend log skidding techniqueused, both two log skidding techniqueswereanalyzed by usingI-test. Study results showed that:1.The average of skidding productivity for each techniques(proper technique/ PT,conventional technique/ Cf) were 38.941,/.hm/ ho11rand 33.779 m'.hm/ hourrespectively;2. The average of skidding cost l?J PT was about F.p 9,076.3 / m1.hm, meanwhile by CT was about F.p 10,39 5.5 / m1.hm; and 3. Implementation of PT withmatting linecould decrease depth of top soildisplacementfrom 8.9 mm (2.76%) to 1.4 mm (0.42%).
