Abstract
Longitudinal fins are extended surfaces to transfer the produced heat from the base to the environment. In the heat transfer models, the heat transfer coefficient and thermal conductivity are assumed as a linear or nonlinear function of the temperature. COMSOL software is a useful cross-platform finite element analysis which can be used for solving ordinary and partial linear or nonlinear heat transfer equations. The present paper aims to investigate transient heat transfer in longitudinal fins with different profiles including rectangular, parabolic, convex, exponential, sinusoidal, and cosine profile by modeling the fins in COMSOL. The results of transient heat transfer show that the nonrectangular profile provides a higher rate of heat transfer, which indicates its superiority over other types of fins.
